Main floor of historic palazzo, Cannaregio (Venice)

In the heart of Cannaregio, one of Venice's most charming neighbourhoods, a large flat on the main floor of a historical palace has undergone a renovation by architect Diana Zabarella. The design and direction of the work focused on the preservation of the historical character of the structure, flanked by the integration of modern solutions to improve living comfort. One of the most significant interventions was the restoration of the Venetian floor, a symbol of local architecture, which was restored to its original splendour using artisanal methods. In addition, a containment tank for high tides was built, thus recovering the entire surface area of the ground floor for living purposes. The technological systems were completely redesigned to offer greater efficiency and safety, guaranteeing modern comfort while minimising the impact on the historical components. The work was completed with the restoration of the valuable interior finishes and the insertion of new coverings, harmonised with the historical context This project has succeeded in combining Venetian tradition and technological innovation, transforming the piano nobile into a modern, elegant and welcoming space, perfectly suited to contemporary living.
