The intervention began with the assembly and disassembly of a cantilevered scaffold over the canal, followed by an initial visual analysis to assess the structural consistency of the façade. The removal of the plasterwork revealed several cracks in the masonry, which required a specific consolidation and refinement of the masonry itself through the cuci-scuci method and the use of fibre-reinforced mortar. Particular attention was paid to the reconstruction of the base of the chimney, which had previously collapsed in water. This work was carried out with precision to ensure the stability and aesthetics of the structure. The reconstruction of the plasterwork followed a three-step process: the application of anti-salt rendering to protect the masonry, the application of a layer of coloured body plaster to even out the surface, and finally, the application of coloured finishing plaster to give a uniform, finished appearance. In the hallway inside the water gate, a complete reconstruction of a non-load-bearing brick arch, previously degraded by rising salt, was carried out. This intervention restored the structural integrity and aesthetics of the hallway, helping to preserve the historic authenticity of the building.
